Dear Members and Friends of Faith Community United Church of Christ,

Happy New Year! Wishing each of you a year of good health, happiness and peace. I also wish the same for us as a community of faithful people and have been giving considerable thought to where we have been and where we are heading.

To review a bit, last year we made a number of improvements to our beautiful space.  We now have a lovely Advent candleholder as well as lecterns thanks to the generous donations from Evie Pritchett’s memorial. Both of our front rooms have undergone some remodeling including new flooring, baseboards and paint. The classroom space is now completely open, without any partitioning and it is a great space for Yoga classes that are currently offered on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Some of the outdoor lighting was repaired and the gardens were cleaned out.  Although this was not our responsibility or expense, the bushes around the cell tower were re-planted.  Our physical space is looking really nice.

Through our various activities we are opening our Church to others, including the doctoral work I am doing. Did you know that we have 14 people, 11 who are not members of our Church attending this workshop on the second Sunday of the month?  Some of them have also attended our church services.

What we need from our members and friends this year is continued support.  I invite you to step out in a new way.  There are open positions on the Council and our current council members need a much deserved break. If you look to the person next to you to fill them, these positions might not get filled.  In our covenant with each other, we prize our independence, yet our Church cannot exist without each of us agreeing to serve the Church community in some way. Jesus invites us to practice hospitality which calls us out of our own need and into the need to serve each other as well as those who might need our Church.
